And patience finally pays off

I've been in need of some brown heels for a while, and I've had my heart set on those brown heels being lace up oxfords. I've been lusting after those shoes for almost a month now, and because my birthday is coming up, my sister decided to take me shopping in search of those shoes. I went to my local mall, but no such luck, even after searching for 2+ hour. I thought Charlotte Russe would have some, because they had suitable ones on their website, but for some reason they weren't in store.

We then made our way to the North Star mall, which is significantly larger, and searched there for another 2+ hours, and still, nothing! I was really frustrated and upset, and decided to just head home. I then went online, and within my first 5 minutes of online shopping, I found a pair. They're beautiful. They're perfect. They're everything I dreamed of, and they're only 78 cents more than they would have been at Charlotte Russe. The only stipulation is that I have to pay for the shipping, but that's really alright! I'm once again, a happy camper! :)

Here's my baby! It should arrive within the next week, I'm so excited!

When the shoes finally come in, i'll probably put together a look for lookbook.... My skirt, the thrift store shirt, a longer necklace, the shoes, and maybe a woven hat? I'll need to pick one up next time I'm shopping :)

I hope you're having good luck with all of your shopping endeavors!

XOXO,
Tialyn

Adventures in Shopping (and sewing)

Yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some fabric to sew a skirt. I've had the concept in my brain for a while, it just took me a while to finally get around to sewing it! I had made a skirt earlier using a different concept that I had read about on another blog (I can't remember the address, or I'd post it here), but I didn't like the results, so at about 12am I decided to attempt my own version. It was relatively simple, and took me around 2 1/2 hours, which isn't bad considering that it's my first time REALLY sewing something without a pattern or anything. Here's the finished product:

It fits me very well and is quite flattering! I was so happy when I finished it. I'm thinking about offering to make skirts like this for people I know if they provide me with 2 yards of their fabric of choice and $10. It'd be a great way to make some spare change, considering how my mom won't let me get a job.

I also decided to stop at my local thrift store and pick up a few things. I got these:
(a baseball shirt for a local kiddie team. It's so kitschy, I just love it)

(I figured this would look good with some waist-high shorts. Now to get the shorts.....)

(This looks really really good tucked into the skirt that I made. They both have a rose motif, so it flows nicely)
I also bought a pair of high-wasit khaki pants that I'm in the process of turning into shorts. It's a slow going process though, because I had to make the waistband a bit smaller and make new pleats, as well as fix some problems with the cuffing. I'm hoping that I'll be done within the next week. If not, I'll just go back to the thrift store and buy a better fitting pair of khaki pants that will make things easier. It'll only cost me $.50 anyways.
I also went to Claire's today and bought two different eyeshadow palletes, which cost me a grand total of $9.46
(The colors are really vibrant, and there are only a few which would be need to put on a base to be bright. They also don't crease easily, which is nice)

That's the last time I will ever go to Claire's, however. I was wrongly accused of shoplifting, and the store clerk was very rude to me. If she had simply said "Excuse me, may I check your bag?" I would have been fine, but this is how the situation played out:

I am a very indecisive person, so I picked up several items and walked around before putting each of them back. When I finally decided on the two eyeshadow palletes, I checked out and left the store. As I walked out of the door, the store clerk came after me and said with an extreme attitude, "Do you want to put back that pearl necklace that you put in your bag earlier?"
I was extremely offended immediately because of her approach, and I replied "I don't know what you're talking about, I didn't take anything from your store"
HER: (still, with the attitude!) "I have proof, I can show you on the video, do you want me to check?"
ME: "Well you can check whatever you want, I didn't steal anything"
HER: "Well what did you do with the necklace then?"
ME: "I put it back. I can show you exactly where I put it down." I then went in the store and proceeded to show her the rack where I put the necklace back. I attempted to exit the store again, when she once again confronted me.
HER: "Well what about all the hair clips you had in your hand earlier? You want to show me where you're hiding those too?" At this point I am really offended.
ME: "You can search my bag, and you can search me, but you won't find anything from your store except for the things I bought and have a receipt for. I'm really offended by this whole situation, and I don't like being wrongfully accused of anything." I then left, and went to the game store, where I called my mother and told her the whole situation. I've never been so livid in my life. I wish I had really given that woman a piece of my mind, but it's better to be slow to anger and slow to speak, than to regret something.

My mother ended up going back in the store and having a "friendly" chat with the woman, which ended up with us getting a 20% discount coupon, which I doubt I'll ever use because I don't want to go back into that store ever again. Since when is it okay to be so rude to a person? It would have been fine if she had asked nicely "May I please check your bag." I would have been fine, and offered her my bag, and left. That's what Hollister did when the alarm went off because the left a security tag on one of my shirts. I wouldn't have been offended, because the woman would have just been doing her job and checking out "suspicious" activity. The fact that she was so rude about it is what gets me.

But whatever, I'm sure I'll be able to laugh about this whole situation tomorrow.

Bonne Nuit, readers!

I've got another quick fix for y'all.

As we all know, it's summer. That's the best time to be lazy, especially with your hair! Why not give your hair a break from all the rough heat and styling? My favorite hairstyle this summer is carefree waves/curls. It really just breathes the essence of summer to me. A time to let loose and have fun, and go whichever way we please. It's also really easy to make happen, and requires maybe 10 minutes of your time before bed.

I always start off by washing and conditioning my hair at night. When I get out of the shower, i apply an anti-frizz and humidity serum (citrushine), and then Garnier Fructise's Curling Gel-Cream mix. I comb out my hair with a fine toothed comb, and part it the way I want my hair to part, and then I put a bit of an acutal Gel in it, and braid it in three different sections like this:

The top braid is a bit more towards the side my hair parts on.

After I finish each braid, I secure it with a bobby pin, becuase hair bands create weird lines in my hair. If your hair will not stay with just bobby pins, try really tiny rubber bands that are meant for braids, and wrap them maybe twice or three times. If you're still up when It's partially dry, I would take out the rubber bands, and let the hair finish drying, because the braids should hold by then. If you just go straight to sleep, when you wake up in the morning and take out the rubber bands, and there's a line in the braid, just put a bit of water on it, and it should turn out fine. I usually just go to bed though, because the bobby pins look fine when I let them out.

!hen I wake up and take out the braids, I shake out my hair a bit to loosen the waves, and these are the results! :)

It's really great for taming my own curly hair. It works best on hair that already has a wave, but if your hair is stick straight, do not fear! It will simply take a bit more hair-product, and most likely french braids instead of just normal braids, that way the wave goes right up to the scalp.

Good luck with this, and if you try it, post picutres of the results! I want to see :)

I'll be waiting

These shoes are just divine. Oh, I would ove to have them so bad! They're from Paul Smiths up and coming fall collection and I'll be pining and saving until I can own these angels. I can just imagine what sort of spice these shoes would add to my wardrobe.

As well as these darling shoes from the same colleciton. I love the fact that It's not just a regular animal print, but upon closer inspection they're little hearts! it's details like this that make me go crazy over items.

I'm in love

With white nail polish! (forgive the crappy picture, all my cameras are charging and I used my web-cam)

It's so quirky and off-beat, but with just the RIGHT touch of class. The best way to wear it is with shorter nails, and tanner hands. If your hands are too pale, it tends to look a little off. I love the way it looks with every outfit I wear, even darker outfits because that just makes the color pop even more.

I noticed this fashion becoming popular in Hollywood around last summer, but it never really hit it with the mainstream, and that's a bit upsetting, because I love it so much!

A spoon full of color helps the monochrome go down

I found these blue tights in my drawer today, and I had to wear them. I feel adding a touch of an absurd color really makes a standard outfit more of your own :)

Spending a Saturday Night at Home?

That's alright! So am I, and I'm making the most of it by watching Footloose and doing a little online shopping. An 80s or 90s movie about teens just being teenagers always makes me feel better when I'm not actually out being a teenager. Not to mention the soundtracks are just so amazing and they really make you feel a little excited to just be watching the movie, almost like you're really there!

Do you know what I love about footloose in comparison to modern dance-centered movies? It's all about fun dancing, dancing that any average Joe can do if they just loosen up and have fun and try. Modern dance movies are all about dancing that you have to have practiced since you were in the womb. No matter how hard I try, I'm never gonna be able to pop, lock or drop it, but I sure as heck can do the mashed potato, and the hand-jive, and get jiggy with it!

Another way to have fun during a lonely Saturday night is to do some self-pampering. Paint your nails, wear that face masque, leave your hair in curlers and skip the damaging heat! It doesn't matter, because you're by yourself, no one to laugh at your green-with-mintjulep-face, or your crazy grandma curlers (They won't be laughing anyways with their split ends), or your "I just painted my toenails" walk.

I actually like spending a few Saturday nights alone, it's really relaxing, and I think alot of people worry too much about what they should be doing, or what they want to be doing, instead of enjoying what they are doing. And that's what life's about, enjoying where you are, being in the moment, and having fun no matter what's happeneing. So take a Saturday night to yourself and learn how to do that :) It's an invaluable lesson!

Ah, summer

Happy Saturday to everyone :) I hope it's treating you well. I, myself, participated in my city's 4th of July Parade, and was happy to come home to a lovely vase of flowers on the table in my room.

I feel like flowers can brighten up and add a new element to any room that's become drab or just over played. The arrangement I got was from my boyfriend, but there's no shame in buying your own flowers for yourself. Think of it as a bit of self-love.

My favorite choices for flowers are lillies, because they're bright and quirky, as well as dyed daisies and blue bonnets. They're just a bit out of the ordinary, and not too traditional as to be out of place in a modern room.

I hope this brightens up your day like it did mine. Have a happy day.

where's Waldo?

I love my Old Navy boy's striped shirt so much that i'm wearing it right now, and I just wore it LAST friday. Maybe it's my new friday treat shirt :)
It's got that perfect blend of structure and comfort, and it looks effortless with the bottom loosely tucked in and the sleeves rolled up. Pair this with a long necklace (like the bronze owl necklace I'm wearing, or a long string of pearls) to bring some femininity back to the ensemble.

Old navy offers in it a variety of different colors, and I'm tempted to go back and pick up a few others, just so I won't always have to do this look in navy blue. The key to buying this shirt in the right fit is to choose it in one size larger than you'd wear in a women's size, so I chose a medium, and it has just the right element of slouchiness without being overly baggy.

My favorite thing to wear it with is trim jean shorts and strappy black sandals right now, considering it's summer, but once fall rolls around it will look great with cuffed jeans and a pair of flats to make it look like you raided your boyfriend's wardrobe.

Good luck and have fun with this shirt! The key to looking good is daring to try something new :)

Quick Fix Thursday

This week's quick fix is to dry shaving!

I hate when I've just gotten all dressed in a cute, put together outfit, then remember that I haven't shaved my legs. Going to the bathtub and using water is a bit too messy, but dry shaving is painful, so I came up with a sort of alternative this morning :)

All it requires is:
A razor (obviously)
Lotion
A cup of warm water
A towel
To start, simply smooth a glob of lotion all over your lower leg area, make sure NOT to rub it in. The lotion needs to be visible for this to work. It stands in reducing the friction, and also helps you see where you still need to shave.

Simply shave your legs as normal, occasionally rinsing the razor and wiping it sideways on the towel to remove the hair and excess lotion. Once you finish with the lower leg, move onto the knee and then the thigh area.

I find this is easier to do than normal shaving in the shower because I can see if I've missed any hair, which is kind of hard to do in a dim shower, and if I have missed any hair, i can simply go back, put a bit of lotion on the spot, and reshave it, rather than having to get BACK in the shower, or simply being to lazy and leaving it. This also saves me the hassle of having to put lotion on afterwards, because I simply just rub in the leftover lotion, and my legs are all moisturized!

Hope this quick fix helps you! Have a great Thursday!
